18th-Century scrolled wingback

This chair had been in my client's family for many years and was well loved. Some of the original upholstery was in relatively good condition, so I kept some of it but replaced the seat. I used traditional techniques throughout - horse hair, calico, hessian and lots of hand stitching. The new fabric is a heritage fabric from Gainsborough Weaving - a brocatelle whose design is from the 18th Century, just like the chair.
